The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū is looking for someone to lead our Visitor Services & Retail team.

This is a key role at the front of the organisation, shaping how people experience the gallery from the moment they arrive. You’ll lead a team of staff and volunteers, oversee the day-to-day operation of the store, and ensure a consistently high standard of visitor experience.

It’s a hands-on role in a busy, public-facing environment. We’re looking for someone who can keep things running smoothly, support their team well, and bring a steady, practical approach to the work.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and support the Visitor Services & Retail team

• Manage retail operations including stock, merchandising, and sales

• Oversee daily operations (rosters, training, systems, service delivery)

• Ensure visitors are welcomed in a professional, informed, and engaging way

• Maintain accurate reporting, cash handling, and administrative processes

• Contribute to the ongoing development of retail and visitor experience

About you:

• Experience leading a team in a customer-facing environment

• Strong customer service and retail skills

• Organised, reliable, and able to manage competing priorities

• Calm, practical, and able to maintain a steady approach in a busy setting

• A clear communicator who works well with a range of people

An interest in the arts is essential.
