Kate Newby and Stuart Newby come together in an intergenerational exhibition. Artist Kate Newby is known for site-responsive works that transform everyday materials into subtle sculptural interventions. Her work has been exhibited across Europe, North America and the Pacific, including at the Sydney Biennale, Palais de Tokyo, and Kunsthalle Wien.
With her is Nelson potter Stuart Newby, whose ceramics practice spans more than 40 years and whose contribution to Aotearoa’s studio pottery includes the landmark publication Playing with Fire – Auckland Studio Potters Turns 50 which he co-wrote with Peter Lange.
Father and daughter, their practices are connected through an attentiveness to process, surface and the way materials can register weather, touch and everyday life.
