The Suter’s ceramics collection carries decades of making, experimentation and quiet breakthroughs in Aotearoa studio pottery and contemporary clay practice. 

Fired Forward brings key works from the collection into focus while marking a clear commitment to what comes next. Alongside this presentation, a group of new artists have been commissioned to create works that will enter the collection, extending its shape and relevance for the future of Te Tau Ihu’s collection. 

Opening in stages, the exhibition first reveals a selection of the collection as it stands. During Nelson Clay Week, newly commissioned works will be unveiled, placing fresh voices in direct conversation with the collection’s established holdings. 

This is both a celebration and a proposition: a collection grounded in its history and actively growing, one firing at a time.
