Matariki Aspirations

🌟 Join us at The Suter for a delightful exhibition celebrating the creative talents of our students this term! We are thrilled to announce that we will be showcasing a collection of Matariki stars, lovingly crafted by the children, outside The Suter's education room. The exhibition will run from Friday 30 June to Sunday 23 July.

Matariki is a significant celestial event in Māori culture, signalling the start of the Māori New Year. Hiwa-i-te-rangi, one of the stars in the Matariki cluster, represents the promise of a prosperous season ahead. Just as people make New Year's resolutions or make wishes upon a star, Māori tradition holds that Hiwa-i-te-rangi is where dreams and desires for the coming year are sent, in hopes that they will be fulfilled. If this star shines brightly in the sky at the beginning of the year, it is believed that collective and individual wishes will come true.

Taking inspiration from this beautiful tradition, our after-school art classes at The Suter have been busy creating their own whetu (stars) using clay. Each star is uniquely stamped with the children's aspirations for the upcoming year. These artworks are a heartfelt expression of their hopes and dreams.

The Suter Kids Club is a vibrant community of 36 students, divided into three classes, ranging in age from 6 to 13 years. We are immensely proud of their dedication and creativity, and we invite you to witness their beautiful artwork firsthand.

If you'd like more information about our classes or have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask our friendly staff at the front desk. We hope to see you at The Suter as we celebrate the talent and imagination of our young artists during this special Matariki exhibition.
