Join artist Claire Colvin for a sociable winter stroll through Nelson's beautiful Queen's Gardens.
Claire studied fine art in the UK and has a background in sculpture and illustration. The class will meet at The Suter Art Gallery foyer, then head next door to the Gardens with sketchbooks, pens, and pencils provided. Claire will guide participants in drawing the delights of these mature gardens, brimming with native plants and delightful vistas over bridges and paths through leafy glades.
Weather permitting, the group will walk for an hour, taking notes, photos, sketching, and doing mindful exercises to unlock creativity.
Back in The Suter's education room, attendees can purchase refreshments from our cafe as Claire leads a series of tasks focusing on composition, texture, and form to free up observation and drawing skills, culminating in a group collaboration.
This class is suitable for all levels of drawing experience and most walking abilities.
Attendees should wear sensible shoes, dress for the weather, and bring a phone camera.
