Artist Spotlight - Sue Scobie

Nelson based ceramicist, who has a background in science.

She takes her inspiration from the world around her and with her keen scientist’s eye endeavours to capture in clay, the essence of our wild places, the forms, textures and colours of the land, sea and bush. She creates refined, pared back, elegant forms. Her work is generally not glazed as she prefers the subtle effects from the combinations of silky, translucent porcelain contrasted with rough gritty stoneware clays, and utilising their natural colours.

All of her work is hand-formed.

She has participated in many exhibitions in New Zealand and overseas, and has won a number of awards.
