Artist Spotlight - Mandy Gargiulo
/Mandy’s exquisite hand-built ceramic vessels are inspired by nature, particularly flowers, leaves and marine life. The exterior surfaces of her vessels often comprise hundreds of petals, their three-dimensionality contrasting with a smooth glossy glazed interior. Her clay of choice is porcelain, highly regarded for its delicacy, strength and white colour, properties she exploits to “celebrate the beautifully perfect imperfection of nature”.
Mandy’s unique pieces have been catching the eye of ceramic exhibition selectors, judges, and collectors. In 2022 Mandy’s piece Takaroa’s Hinaki won the People’s Choice Award at the prestigious Portage Ceramics Awards in Auckland. This is but one of many successes and accolades received over the past 5 years including being the Supreme Award recipient in the 2018 Ceramics New Zealand Expressive Ceramics Exhibition.
