Michael Dell: Above Below / Tempelhofer Feld

  • The Suter Art Gallery 208 Bridge Street Nelson, 7010 New Zealand (map)

Experience this meditative solo exhibition by one of the region’s most significant contemporary artists, Michael Dell. Above Below / Tempelhofer Feld showcases Michael's meticulous paintings, drawings, and installation inspired by Tempelhof Field in Berlin, a former airfield now transformed into a vast, mixed-use city park.

This exhibition evolved from Michael’s curiosity about the 940-acre expanse of Tempelhofer Feld, a site rich with human history. Since 2008, this vast green space has been open to the public as a city park, where nature is gradually reclaiming the land, and community gardens and cyclists thrive. Dell's subtle, minimalist paintings and drawings of Tempelhof Field, with its ever-changing terrain and expansive sky, invite slow and meditative viewing.
