The Art of Still Life - Drawing Workshop

  • The Suter Art Gallery 208 Bridge Street Nelson, 7010 New Zealand (map)

Join us for “The Art of Still Life,” a hands-on workshop that delves into the rich history and intricate techniques of still life art. Held in the inspiring setting of The Suter Art Gallery, this session is designed to awaken your inner artist and refine your drawing skills.

In this workshop, participants will delve into the evolution of still life, uncovering its rich history, diverse themes, and various styles through an interactive presentation. Following this, attendees will engage in a hands-on drawing session, learning the essentials such as geometric shapes, structural frameworks, and accurate proportions of antique drawing tools. The experience culminates in a creative exercise where individuals will use white chalk pencils on black paper to produce vivid contrasts, emphasizing the importance of negative space and composition while working with a collection of pottery.

Mark Dunstan, a seasoned art educator, will lead the workshop, offering his expertise to help you grow your artistic talent and self-assurance.

This workshop is perfect for anyone eager to learn or enhance their artistry. Beginners will find a supportive environment to start their journey, while advanced artists will discover new challenges to push their boundaries. Plus, it’s a fantastic opportunity to socialize and form new friendships!

The workshop takes place amidst the captivating “Still Life… In the Old Genre” exhibition, curated by Kyla Mackenzie, offering a unique backdrop to your creative exploration.
