What does home mean to you? How do artists express their ideas of home, housing, and shelter? How do these artworks relate to the current housing crisis in Aotearoa and around the world?

These are some of the questions that this exhibition explores, featuring a wide range of artists from the late twentieth century to the present. You will see how home can be a source of comfort, sanctuary, memories, and identity, as well as a symbol of social status, wealth, or insecurity. You will also discover how artists depict the domestic space as a place of anxiety, mystery, or creativity, reflecting their personal and psychological experiences of home.

This exhibition invites you to think about your own sense of home, and how it shapes your identity and belonging in Aotearoa.

Home: Give Me Shelter will consist of loaned works and some collection pieces: multi-media (paintings, moving image, sculpture, jewellery and photography). Artists will include: Claudia Kogachi, Graham Fletcher, Turumeke Harrington, Hamish Allan, Gavin Chai, Noel McKenna, John Radford, Philip Clairmont, Laura Williams, Nick Austin, Peter Siddell, and Marie Shannon.
